DS7 gloss black trim chip near window switch — material question + repair advice?

Hi everyone,

First time posting here. I’ve got a DS7 and somehow managed to get a little chip and a few scratches in the glossy black trim along the window, right next to the window switch with the knurled knob (photos attached).
The annoying thing is the damage sits on what looks like the same panel as the touch controls - so I’m a bit nervous about just slapping a touch-up pen on it. The material also feels weird, almost more like glass than normal plastic, really hard and shiny. Not sure if that matters.

A few things I’m hoping someone can help with:

  • Has anyone had something similar fixed? Did a regular paint/scratch repair shop sort it, or did you have to go to the DS dealer?
  • Any idea what this trim is actually made of? I don’t want to ruin it by using the wrong stuff.
  • Roughly what did it cost you, if you got it done?

I’d rather not just live with it, but I also don’t want to make it worse trying to DIY something that needs a pro. Any advice or experience would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks!

One picture is sometimes worth more than a hundred words.

Certainly, thanks for the guide. Picture uploaded.

You can’t fix it. It’s a manufacturing defect in the screen. The only solution is to replace it with a new one.

Thanks Andrew. Appreciate the response.

That means the entire touchscreen, not just the piano black. It’s not cheap.

To console you, I’ll write that sometimes it’s worse in DS7

You can actually buy plastic cutting polish.

Just last week my son took his car into a detailer to have very fine hairline scratches removed from the piano black media surround on the dash.
Half hour all done.

My wife has a Renault Capture that had a very noticeable scratch on the piano black on one of the external door pillars, we took it to a paint shop to have a stone chip repaired on the bonnet and asked about the scratch on the door pillar plastic, the guy simply polished it out whilst we were there, it took seconds, he used a fine cutting compound and then a polish to bring back the shine.
That was 3 months ago and its still perfect.

Going even further.
A few years ago we bought a new Renault Kadjar, it had a scratch on the clear plastic on the dash display, the dealership had it polished out whilst we waited.

Scratches on pian black can definitely be removed, we’ve had it done on our cars, I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
Obviously if its too deep, well that a different ball game.
Looking at your photo though, it looks very deep, if I’m looking at the right bit ?

It’s not plastic, but a thin layer of special clear varnish. It covers the touchscreen front glass and frame, which form a single piece.
No matter what you do, it will always be visible.

I have same issue and I will leave it as it is

Thanks for all the feedback - very valuable! I am leaning toward keeping it as is, given that I’ll likely switch to a new EV in the fall. Thanks again, everyone.

For others, cover the screen during the hot days, do not use alcohol or alcohol based or aggressive cleaners and you wont have any issues…

Late reply sorry, but how about buying a piece of black glossy sticky backed tape and putting it on really neatly across the full width? There must be something on ebay or in a craft shop that would do! Worth a try!

But to do this, you first need to level the surface under the screen. Without it, the tape will be wavy.

I agree, so maybe a very careful application of glue like araldite to the damage which can be very gently cut back and smoothed first? So long as its as flat as possible, it will be hidden anyways, or a more rigid tape/plastic strip that would bridge the gaps beneath? I personally would have a shot, cheapest options first
