So this morning we had a bit frost on the car, no big deal I thought, I’ll just start the engine to warm the car up, nope not that easy !
In my head I thought I could perhaps jump in the car press start and the engine would kick straight in (due to the outside temp) and I could leave it tick over for 10 mins, but this was not the case !
No matter which mode I tried I couldn’t get the engine to kick in unless I pulled off slightly, which is what I had to do, pull off slightly, the engine kicked in, stop and switch on the aircon, increase the temp up a bit to defrost the windows. and leave it tick over for a few minutes.
It worked great, defrosting the screen very quickly and putting a bit of heat inside the car ready to drive.
However, I’m sure there must be an easier way to do this with the pre-conditioning feature on the E-Tense ?
I have the Connected Services app on my phone and it does show how to set a time & day for the aircon to come on but it doesnt show how to adjust the temp ?
So if anyone can offer advice on how to correctly use the pre-conditioning feature via the car and the app it would be great.
Thanks.
You had the DS-4, right?
I only know about the DS-7, but I’m thinking it might very well be the same.
In the DS-7 you can’t adjust the temp for the pre-cond.
It’s set for 21 C, and I think it takes about 50 min to reach that, depending on external climate of course.
Morning,
Ive use climatising for a couple of weeks, in temps around -2c it takes roughly 20 minutes to almost defrost complete windscreen and front windows.
30minutes and its totally defrosted except the cluster behind rearview mirror.
Setting your “start of travel” time works just as on the DS7 above.
When in “idle” only way to start engine is to push down the gas pedal 50% or something, the engine starts and idles for at least 4 minutes (havent tried any longer time).
If you only climatise and dont use the electric heating of windscreen, you might experience that the Matrix headlights “auto” mode is greyed out and doesnt work. Thats just because theres ice in front of the sensors, solved with electric heating for a minute and then one wipe with windscreen wipers.
Ive experienced that my car gets really moist in the cabin when using climatising.
I believe that Ive figured out that it depends on the use of air conditioning when driving.
Water or moist is build up in the piping, when aircondition is on it dehumidifies the air, but when climatising air condition isnt activated = all moist is blown into the cabin. From memory theres some part of the ventilation piping that isnt used when aircondition is activated, that should be where the moist builds up.
Ive turned of air conditioning when driving and it has resolved the issue with moist in the cabin during climatising.
Im really positive of the heating capabilities of the e-tense, really quick and solid temps in the cabin.
Quickest way is to have it plugged in
To be serious - I start my car, activate heated windscreen, when Im done removing the snow and ice on side windows its blowing hot air and windscreen is deiced.
We got roughly 20cm snow during the night = good insulation
I never use the recirculation, no need where I live and use my car
Unfair comparison maybe but I never had any moist in any of my later cars, XC70, V60CC and Skoda Superb, but all of them has webasto diesel heater and the V60CC also has remote start of the engine.
