Dash Cam DS4

Has anyone installed a dash cam to a DS4 ?
If so where did you take the live feed from ?

Do you mean preview when there is no screen on the dash cam?

I’m thinking of installing a video dash cam but don’t like to see trailing cables everywhere.
Plus I’m not really sure what cam to get.
I’ve looked at a few Nextbase products but have seen some negative reviews regarding the internal battery failing after a while which is not replaceable ?

And I’m thinking about this one (only front 4K) Auto-DVR für Peugeot 308 2021 bis 2023, für Citroen C5 X 2021 bis 2023, für Vauxhall Astra 2022 2023, Plug-and-Play 4K-Dash-Kamera - AliExpress 34
The C5X/P308/Astra L windshield is the same as the DS4 (glass size, angle, mirror housing). The dash cam connects to the mirror assembly, eliminating the need for cables. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a parking mode. Recordings can be read by removing the card or by phone via Wi-Fi.

So the whole camera assembly fits over the existing mirror housing ?
The existing housing on my DS4 is already big ?
I assume the dash cam takes power from somewhere inside the existing mirror housing ?

3x yes, exactly.

I’m still toying with the idea of a dash cam but put off by reports that a dash cam could run down the cars own battery levels if the cam has been connected to a permanent live and is set in parking mode, ie records any impact after the car has been parked.

I’ve had issues with the 12v batteries on my DS4 so I’m not sure if I get a cam how best to wire it up.
Is the one you looked at require a permanent live feed ?

I’ve looked at a few of the Nextbase ones that do have parking mode, but they seem to have bad reviews in regards to the internal battery life unless connected to a permanent live feed, which is where I’m concerned about the running down the cars 12v batteries ?

Also from what I’ve read, most Nextbase cameras do not allow for the internal battery to be changed by the owner, they are a sealed unit, so need to be sent back to Nextbase for a battery replacement.

Since the camera’s power supply is connected to the mirror (it turns off when the ignition is turned off) and it does not have its own battery (or it is very small), it probably does not have a sensible parking mode.

The parking mode is good to have I think, but this would need a permanent live supply which I’m not sure where to take it from ?
Nextbase sell a hard wire kit for permanent supply or you can use the 12v adaptor that plugs into the cars 12v socket but I’m sure if the DS 12v socket switches off with ignition.
But my main concern is the effect having a dash cam connected to permanent supply would have on the cars 12v batteries ?
Would it be the main 12v feeding the camera or the smaller 12v ?

I don’t know the answer to that question because it depends on where you plug it in. I’d have to look it up.

Does the 12v outlet on the car stay live or switch off after a pre-determined time ?

The 12V socket in DS4 turns off immediately when the ignition is turned off. The parking mode camera harness must be connected directly to the fuse box.

To get 12V for parking mode harness from the fuse box, these connectors are necessary (for DS4 type micro2 or micro3)

This is the hardwire kit for Nextbase cam.
It has a feature built in to switch off the camera if the cars 12v battery drops too low.

Not sure if the fuses are the same as the DS4 ??

Series 2 Dash Cam Hardwire Kit | Nextbase UK

Not the same, because they shows for mini/standard fuses not micro2/micro3 as is in DS4
You won’t find a kit for the Micro2 or Micro3. You’ll need to purchase them separately.

update: this set has micro2 but it’s for “Nextbase Piqo”

Or for Series 2 could be by OBD

There’s one free fuse port F25 (micro2), which is probably powered by BAT+. If not, then F11 (occupied) and F15 (occupied) are nearby, but with this micro2 cable from AliExpress, that’s no problem.
Unfortunately, the fuse box is very tight.
