DS 4 2024 Auto handbrake won't release

DS 2024 1.2 Performance Line + EAT 8

Today, was 2nd time in 2 years, the auto handbrake failed to disengage… with D or R selected.

Dash alert suggests pushing P and footbrake at same time.
It. still refused to disengage and remained fully on.

2nd time this occurred…
Happened in January this year when temp was - 5.C and happened this morning, when temp was 29 C.

After several restarts and attempts, it did finally release., and has worked ok since.

As its so intermittent, the DS dealer found nothing when I mentioned it when it went in for service…
So the worst type of fault… electronic and intermittent

Anyone else had this?
.
After the last debacle with the sharkfin/ GPS/ OTA/ radio issue… I don’t think the Stelleantis tech is very reliable… and I am now pondering dropping it…

Then again… ALL cars / brands are now so packed with electronics, the next brand / model could have more / different issues…

Cheers

The auto handbrake on our DS4 has behaved ok since this occurred yesterday…

However in anticipation of it happening again, I intend to de-activate the auto function as described in the DS4 manual, which I have just discovered,

This should effectively make the handbrake a manual facility as opposed to auto.

Then I can monitor if its the auto release mechanism in isolation/ faulty.

Not your problem, but my first long journey in my DS4 involved a ferry, and when trying to drive off the boat (with lots of other cars behind) the auto handbrake wouldn’t release and not knowing why it took some frantic pressing buttons before I could get moving. Reading the manual later, the car may have kept the handbrake on due to doors being opened or it being started for a long time without moving. However, since that I have always released handbrake manually - I don’t want to revisit that panic.

Interesting comments.

On mine, it wasn’t any door open , and there was no alert on the dash saying as much.

BUT…
on both occasions, the car had been running and static for probably 10 - 15 mins without moving…

In winter to keep it warm and remove condensation , and recently to keep the aircon going to keep cool… so there may be something in the static comment!

That said, it has worked perfectly since the 2nd mishap…so as yet I haven’t (yet) disabled the auto release feature, while I continue to monitor its behaviour.

When it happened - the car was very new to me (a few days), and even at the time I couldn’t remember exactly what I had done before that point (perhaps I got out of the car whilst car was ON to get something out of the boot). I had a look at the manual at the time and it seemed there were situations where the handbrake / parking brake would be put on for safety reasons (sensible) and may need an action like turn OFF and ON to release. It sounded complicated, so I decided from that point I would always activate handbrake manually as it was only one extra button press/pull.
