DS7 e-tense 2019-2021 traction battery recall

I got the recall notice as well. Just took it in, and they said only the software needed to be updated but there is an error code indicating the “secondary” battery has a problem and needs to be replaced at a cost of €200 (plus tax) which is not covered under warranty. Apparently this error appears when they start the car. Thisis new to me as I have never had this error appear before. Has anybody else had this problem? Could the software update have something to do wit it? By the way, I am in Portugal.

Cold temperature has a clear negative effect on battery performance.
I’m getting around 30 km now, but it’s probably a bit more cold here (+6 C right now).

Yeah totally agree.
Not only has the mileage on mine dropped from 33 to 26 after a full charge, it seems to use this charge more quickly without achieving the lower predicted 26 miles.

Mine DS4 shows 50km (31mi) but I try to finish charging about 30-45 minutes before the trip. Outside temp. about +5

Whats the reason to complete charging 30-45 mins before the trip .
Just curious.

On cold days, the coolant is likely also heated while charging the traction battery to ensure the battery reaches its optimal temperature and charges as efficiently as possible. Therefore, terminating charging shortly before a journey will reduce energy loss while driving. The battery’s cooling system serves not only to cool the battery but also to heat it. This depends on the outside temperature.

Great tip, keep them coming :+1:

It makes sense also preheat the cabin while on charger, so you save another bit of energy.

That’s not so great. If charging ends 30 minutes before departure, the heating will still drain the battery, because charging isn’t resumed if the cabin heating is still running after it ends.

Might depend on the charger.
When I’m using household charger (regular 220V socket) it doesn’t matter if it was fully charged hours ago, it will still make sure it’s 100% after using pre-heating. Just tried it yesterday.

So Jay,
Let me see if I have this correct.
If you charge by using the normal household socket, once the charge is complete, it will start charging again if pre-heating the cabin has taken charge out of the traction battery.

That’s the only conclusion I can draw.

The estimated range was 28 km at a full charge before I activated the pre-heating.
Thirty minutes later, when I drove off, it was still showing 28 km.

At home, where I don’t have access to charging, running the pre-heating unplugged usually consumes around 4–6 km of range.

When the car is plugged in, I can’t see why it would stop charging and then be unable to resume if needed—unless it’s a commercial charger that requires a new payment, of course.

This is a discussion for a separate thread. Maybe it’s different in the DS7, but that’s how my DS4 works: once charging is complete, the cabin preheater draws power from the battery. Unfortunately, charging doesn’t resume, so when I get in, my traction battery is at, for example, 93%. Of course, the charging cable is still connected to a 230V socket.

Isn’t the range indicator in an EV basically just guessing how many kilometers you can still drive based on how you’ve been driving recently? Sometimes it shows 28 km, sometimes 38 km. It works the same way in regular petrol cars, like those from VAG. And the way you charge the battery doesn’t matter here at all — the estimate is based purely on your recent driving style.

I received a recall letter in Sept, still waiting for the traction battery to be replaced. Anyone in the same boat?

You can check charging and heating in the App and adjust accordingly.

Had a problem after getting the car back from recall. Started only in Hybrid mode and could not change mode, but stopping and starting again, it goes to electric. Te shop then found afault code, changed the small battery in the back and it is now ok.Probably the software update recuires a better battery

The battery is most likely dead. It depends on its age. If it was a year old, a recharge would suffice. If it was three years old or more, it might need to be replaced.

We’ve talked about this a few times Andrew, so sorry for asking again.
If replacing the smaller 12v how is it accessed ?
From what I can see theres a small bracket holding the battery in place but I cant see where to release this bracket ?
I’m talking about the small 12 v inside the DS4 central compartment between the front seats.
Does the whole compartment have to come out to get the battery out ?
