JP, If you get 45 estimated and you only have 40 to target you should use electric only. At least if you want to save money. I know I would.
(45 miles estimated is ridiculous btw. I get 44 km at best)
This morning I had a gestimated 8 miles left on arrival at work but will have none on the return due to more time in very slow traffic. Usually 1hr 15 for the morning 40miles and 2.5 to 3hrs for the evening 40miles. The car drops in to ICE if I reach 55 mph or more but will drop back to electric if cruising. Also it there is a slight incline the ICE will cut in if under load but drops out quickly. I use comfort mode and I have active suspension and the ride is very nice.
When driving in pure electric mode, you have to be careful not to overheat the battery (dynamic electric driving + A/C + audio at max volume). This happened to me recently, and the car switched from Electric mode (batt. 55%) to Hybrid mode. The outside temperature was 38°C.
As a new owner of a 2025 - DS7 E-tense 300 i’m currently seeing 52 km E-range on the dash. Haven’t been able to get it higher than that yet. It started out with 38, as the previous owner didn’t bother to do any charges.
I do like the driving experience with Electric Juice better than the petrol only, so i’m planning to get it charged up every chance I get ![]()
I’m in doubt if using Google Maps navigation affects the way it consumes electric in Hybrd mode. I know it supposed to only work with the built-in Navigation (that I don’t like in terms of how it looks and functions). On a recent 135 km drive (lot of highway) with using Google Maps I have noticed that the battery was drained almost perfectly to a 0 % just before I got home. Could be a coincidency ofcourse due to the hybrid mode mainly using petrol on the highway.
The best time to maximize a car’s range on Electric mode is spring and autumn, when there is no need to use cabin heating or cooling.
Depends on what temperatures you get during those periods.
I get my best ranges in the summer even though I use the AC because the summer temp here gives the batteries the best working conditions.
As soon as the temp falls to 15 and below, I see the range getting negatively affected.
Just remember that it’s easy to overheat the traction battery in the summer. It happened to me when it was 38°C.
Hopefully it’ll be a while before that.
The heat record in my city was actually beaten just a couple of weeks ago, with 35,1 as the new record.
But yeah, something to be aware of of course.
From my experience Google maps has no effect on how the car behaves.
I get 100-120 miles (160-190km) before the battery gets to 0% without using the inbuilt satnav. But it’s odd that you went to 0% exactly when you got home.![]()
Someone has suggested you program your final destination in the cars satnav, then use Ggogle Maps or whatever, but I tried that and it had no effect, will need to test again.
I left that information out to be honest, I did initially use the built-in nav and then switched to Google Maps. I thought it would be far fetched that the system still operates with that in mind while navigation was cancelled by the use of Google Maps ![]()

In my car the built-in satnav can’t be used simultaneously as carplay navigation (gmaps or apple maps, or waze etc).
If I start one of those, the DS satnav ceases to navigate.
And from what I gathered from the manual, it’s only with the built-in satnav you get some battery distribution planning from the car, even though I’ve tried it and I don’t feel I can see any huge difference. The battery runs out way before I get to my destination anyways if I travel more than ~150 km.

The inbuilt satnav is okay, in general, but I’m not going to pay £8.99 a month to keep traffic alerts, hence Google maps.
Say you drive 150 miles and you run out of electric assistance after 100 and drive the rest in Hybrid, the mpg won’t be dissimilar to using the inbuilt sat-nav, so it’s still a win.
I’m curious about this, is the battery usage planning only on newer PHEV cars ? On my 2022 DS4 E-Tense, on a longer journey and when use the built in sat-nav (with connected services), the default behaviour of the car is to start in Electric mode until the battery reaches 0% and it then switches to Hybrid for the remainder of the journey. Perhaps I need to manually change the mode to hybrid when I start the journey (override the default Electric mode) to get the battery usage planning ?
Yes, you should start in hybrid/comfort mode from the beginning.
I don’t think the car will pull itself out of electric mode for satnav reasons.
No it won’t put itself on Hybrid. I think that best practise is that if you are planning to make a longer trip (than the e-range permits) you put it in hybrid mode so you don’t ‘waste’ all your e-juice on the highway but spend it on lower speeds where it’s more efficient (compared to petrol).
Yes again. Hopefully you know where you are going to and roughly how far it will be. Then ask yourself, will I do the journey on Electric only? If you won’t then chose either of the three hybrid options.
As for the built in Sat Nav, ensuring you still have electricity left, it depends on these factors (and possibly others), driving style, speed, roads, distance. Remember computers are only as good as the information they have.

Many thanks - that all makes perfect sense. I am surprised I hadn’t understood it does this before now. I will try it out, and compare to what I have been getting in terms of fuel/elec usage compared to the default dumb mode selection. As @Jay has concluded, there probably won’t be much different overall, as the total energy consumed to do the same journey and speeds will be the same, and any difference is about the relative efficiency of ICE vs elec.
