Why did I buy this damn car. I’ve owned a 2021 model for 9 months paying over £18k. For the last 3 months it’s been stuck at the dealership for what was originally rear traction motor fault. Apparently they got round to replacing it under warranty after 2 months but they tell me they keep getting faults with it. I drive for a living so have had to use my wife’s Vauxhall Corsa when possible or rent privately as the dealership won’t provide me with a courtesy car. I feel the dealership are being dishonest and keeping me in the dark. They never return calls when they promise. I just want rid of the damn thing. Sorry this is more of a rant than a question. Anyone else have issues with theirs?
With you all the way, but mine is the DS4, which with the optional extras cost £46000.
It the most expensive car I purchased new, and without doubt the one that has been the most unreliable.
I know ALL makes of cars have issues, but with my DS issues seem to be the “norm”.
I don’t hide the fact from anyone that I think DS are cr*p.
Anyone who asks about my car, I tell them the truth, it’s been nothing but problems and stay away from DS at all costs.
When a car becomes complicated (premium brands), problems arise because it’s impossible to design a reliable car in a short time. This applies to many brands, even those that were previously reliable (e.g., the BMW 1 and 2 Series, comparable to the DS4). This is why many premium cars are problematic.
30,000 miles on BMW engines can be a problem these days.
It seems that what you have is what you complain about. The era of reliable cars is over, so many people are returning to budget cars because they aren’t as packed with technology, meaning they’re less prone to breakdowns.
Ultimately if an expensive car, or any car really, just keeps going wrong you tend to associate the whole brand as being a failure.
My experience has put me off DS altogether, under the circumstances I think that’s a normal human response.
Then on the flip side, my son’s Astra Ultimate which is also PHEV, hasn’t put a foot wrong, yet both are made by Stellantis.
When I drive his car it just feels better, but that might be just me because of my experience with my DS.
… in the same factory as DS4 and in Germany.
Your DS4 still has problems? I saw your posts few months back
luckily my 2020 ds7 phev seems ok so far. i did buy 3 years warranty just in case.
Currently it’s running good, no issues with batteries or door handles.
In fact it was in the dealership yesterday just for a health check arranged by DS UK, just so they can keep an eye on things.
However, I still wouldn’t buy another DS and wouldn’t recommend a one anyone.
Mine has been too much hassle for me to have any positive thoughts on it.
I kick myself that I didn’t give it back when I had the opitunity.
I will say though, the dealership gave me DS4 as a courtesy car yesterday, not sure the exact model, it was a PHEV, the ride in it was nothing compared to mine, it felt a bit lumpy on some road surfaces, I found the road noise coming into the cabin noisier, the radio sound not as good as mine, and the engine when it kicked in was far far noisier than mine.
It didnt have some of the extras mine has either, in fact I thought it was rather bland.
It was a 2025 plate with 8000 miles on the clock, I just hope mine dont sound like this when I reach that mileage.
Then again I’ve only done 2300 miles in 18 months, so 8000 miles is a few years away yet ![]()
