Fast hybrid battery discharge

Hello, I have recently bought 3 years old DS4 e-tense. This is my first experience with hybrid vehicle. From begining I had a problem with electric drive malfunction and also hybrid battery was showing only 18km at 100% charge. After some research I have found out that auxillary battery was dead (2,8v). After replacement all faults about electric drive stopped, but still on full hybrid battery range od only 20 km. I was wondering if is it normal or hybrid battery is dead. Maybe some coding or something ? Anyone experienced such small range on full electric ?

Welcome @Regis

Change your driving style and save electricity, for example, by turning off the air conditioning. The range will increase.

Electric driving is a state of mind and requires compromises. Electric mode is for driving like retirees. Sport mode is for fast driving.

That’s what i though. But still driving on hybrid mode average 40-50 km per day drains my traction battery from 100% to zero. And I was wondering if it is normal to charge everyday full battery or maybe there is some malfunction to take care of. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting from hybrid vehicle such fast discharge because overall cost of driving isn’t that low comparing to my Audi Q5. I didn’t expect to be forced to drive mostly on fuel for cost saving.

This requires time and calm driving only in Electric mode until the traction battery reaches 0% and only then Hybrid or Comfort mode.

Have you compared the range on the dash is the same as your aactual range - they are usually different.
Also, the predicted range works on history, if the car has been n on a dealers forecourt and omly driven single figure km and then recharged, the car will calculate predicted range differently.
In the UK, at this time of the year 40-50km (25-31m] on pure Electric is probably about right.

I’ve just come back from a 900 mile trip,in mostly in comfort (hybrid) mode and the predicted range was lower than expected, but will get better over time as I’m making sure I recharge from 0% for a few days.

I’m still testing the available true range. But as I said hybrid technology is something new for me and I clearly had different expectations. That’s why I’m curious is it normal or there is something wrong with my DS. Especially because I had electric engine faults and auxillary battery dead. But following your guys advices, I will observe how is it behaving in time and come back with some more details. Today I was coming back from work 16km (40mins approx) in traffic jams on full electric and that used about 40% charge on extra calm drive. Seems a bit too much for me.

Don’t worry too much about the flat auxiliary battery, they are AGM type and can comfortably cope with sitting at 0% for a while.
The engine will charge both batteries, it, once the underbonet battery is about 90% (my opinion), the current then goes to the auxiliary battery.

Glad you are getting the hang of it, however, stop start is heavy on the battery, so you will get less range, the idle drive is steady at about 80kmh.

Tip, not sure if your car has it, but adaptive cruise control is great for traffic jams.

My son has just informed me his PHEV Astra (same as our Ds4 E Tense) is currently showing has a predicated electric range of 26 miles after a full charge, but he’s achieving mid 30’s when setting his trip counter to zero.

Yes, I had bought a 4-tear old Tense in 2024, and initially it also gave me only 20 to 23km on a full charge, but after charging and using it for a couple of months it slowly rose to 45 to 48km in the summer and 30 to 32km in the winter. Now my car is almost 6 years old and I still get the same. It is definitely worth charging, especially if you do it at home.

Same here - when I first got my car (3yr old DS4) Sept last year the elec range seemed below what I expected - 20-22miles max. Probably due to being on a garage forecourt for some months (no cell rebalancing?), the start of colder weather and I was only being used for very short journeys. I now I have a regular longer, steady drive (but hilly) and warmer weather, on the last trip I got 35 miles / 56 km from the battery before the ICE started (but also driving like a granny to get as far as possible).

Thank you for advice about reseting last trip memory, it made some changes.
Now it’s 30km, not 20 like previously on full charge. Apparently, there is a long way for me to master eco driving technique. But for now I don’t see possibility to drive around 50 km in full electric mode. Thank you all for respond.
