"Fault, electric drivetrain"

Yeyyy - Another fault appeared yesterday - “Fault, electric drivetrain”.
Result is that electric mode isnt available at all. All other electrics does work and the electric engine “supports” petrol engine in Hybrid and Comfort mode, regen and charging is working.

To me it feels like another electronic gremlin… I`ve contacted my workshop and asked for a faultcode reading and reset.

Anyone else experienced something similar?

Ouch.
At least you had a fairly new car so you have warranty, right?

Yes, still under warranty - from memory three years or 100 000km.

This may sound odd but when I went to collect my car from new we couldn’t use full electric mode as it was showing the same error message as yours.

The reason for the error was not actually down to a fault with the electric side of the motor , it was because the car had not done sufficient milage from the petrol engine.

So basically the car had been sitting in storage for a while and had not run the petrol engine so it needed to run for a little while in petrol / hybrid mode so that it could "check itself out " ( dealers words not mine).
Apparently if the petrol engine hasnt run for a while it will knock off full electric mode so that the petrol/hybrid kicks in just to run a few checks over a set amount of mileage ?
I’m not sure exactly what it checks out, but I think it’s things like oil pressure, water temps fuel pumps ect ?
Dealer said its because the engine hasnt run enough so knocks off electric mode forcing the car to use petrol/hybrid until its check those components and is happy that all is ok, once it’s happy that the petrol engine is ok it will allow full electric ?
I can recall that it took a day or two for ours to start using full electric mode, it’s worked ever since.

Dont know if this is similar to your issue but it was the same error message ?

Hmmm, weird that it shows the same “fault”. My car has done 20 000km since I got it in the end of March. I also use the petrol engine everyday (petrol is always activated above 77km/h), shortest distance per weekday is 85km and it`s used every single day.

Yeah, I found it odd when I was told this by the dealership.

Initially the sales department read the message and just put the car on charge thinking it was the battery that needed charging but the next morning, the day I was due to collect it, the message was still there so they asked the tech dept to have a look and thats when they were told it’s not a fault its just that the full electric mode has been suspended by the cars CPU until the car has got some mileage from the petrol/hybrid side of the car.

It’s purely so that the car can run some checks after it being idle for a long time.

Maybe the error message is a generic one that possibly covers other faults as well ?

I was sceptical when I collected the car , but soon after driving in petrol/hybrid mode the car allowed the use of full electric and it’s been fine since !

I have to say though, I’m finding from my experience with the keyless entry & welcome lights issue I’m not 100% convinced that anyone from DS UK know enough about the cars, especially the E Tense.

DS sent a Stellantis “Specialist” Technician to look at my car yesterday, he spent all day downloading data to & from the car and it’s still the same, he’s now passed it onto DS in France but apparently they have already closed for Xmas and wont be open until 2nd week of January .

The service department at my dealership said “I was very lucky to have him look at my car because he only gets involved in complicated issues and is difficult to book him for dealership issues”.

I dont feel very lucky at all, the issue is still there and the car has been in the service department more times than I’ve driven it and now I have to wait another 3 weeks for someone else in France to get involved !
“Lucky”, nah, more like unlucky that I chose a DS in the first place !

Truth is, I’m not enjoying the car, sadly I’m starting to feel l that DS is not a quality build brand.

I’m constantly looking out for error messages on the screens, even the fancy DS key ring they gave fell apart in my hands today

If I keep this car a year I’ll be very surprised, but at this rate I wont be able to sell it as it will probably still be in & out of the service department. :smirk:

Yesterday i disconnected the 12V battery terminal in engine compartement to try and “reset” the car. Was quite surprised when I got back to the car and found out that all 12V electrics still worked… Some kind of voodo i thought
Today, after reading the manual I learned that we have another battery in the armrest.
Now, disconnecting both of them kills the cars 12V circuits. Left it with no power for about 15 minutes. Reconnected everything just to find that the fault persists.
I even got a “bonus” fault code for “front collision…” something error :joy:
Even tried to read fault codes via OBD2 and “torque” app with no success, no generic fault code covered by the OBD protocol.

But - thanks to the trusty RPM gauge i could see that my car actually uses the battery and electric motor just as normal when in hybrid or comfort, only difference is that it keeps the petrol engine at idle instead of turning it off.

7/1-2025 I will leave it at the workshop for faultsearching.

How cold is it where you are?
I know some hybrids (Toyotas) don’t like temperatures below 5°, but I’m sure our system is good below zero.

My car has been working properly down to -10c, now its roughly +6c outside.

Thank you, that rubbishes that theory then , and now as they say, “back to the drawing board”
