Hmm
Mechanical problems are one thing, but electrical problems may come after some software / firmware updates, who knows… Apple did the same once with iPhones to make us buy new ones, so something similar could be in general in the automotive industry as well…
I log on here most days just to see advice & tips ect , but recently there seems to far more posts reporting faults, most seem to be electrical based ?
My son has a Vauxhall Astra Ultimate PHEV, and he’s had a few issues with electrics.
Vauxhall & DS both made by Stellantis, , in fact the DS4 PHEV and the Astra PHEV are almost the same car underneath, even the Vauxhall app is the same as the DS app and like the DS app its also rubbish !
My previous car was a Volvo which I had for 9 years, ran like a dream, the forum I joined for Volvo was monitored and administered by Volvo , so if you had a fault or there seemed to be the same issues being reported on the forum, Volvo customer care would contact you to offer advice/help.
I wonder if this site is monitored by DS ?
Just in case anyone is peeping from through their hands from DS , SORT OUT YOUR ELECTRICS THEY’RE A JOKE.
“Buy a new one”.
Would you really consider another DS
Not to defend PSA in general and DS automobiles in particular but most people who come on this type of forums come because they have an issue to begin with, and i’m no exception, so that might be a reason why things are looking a tad gloomy. Think of it this way, from the (im asuming) thousands of DS owners out there we are a pretty small percentage, even though some owners might be technologically challenged and don’t know their way around the interwebs. Coming back to actual reliability, i guess the old saying “they dont make’em like they used to” has never been more true than it is today. Everything is made to break down as soon as possible after the manufacturer warranty expires, and all car manufacturers engage in this practice. Heck, you were talking about your old volvo, but if you would buy a newer model now you’d probably end up disappointed. Oh and regarding updates i would recommned you don’t do it, at least for the infotaiment system. I’ve updated mine and now there’s an ocasional hitch while playing back music from my phone via bluetooth, not too often, but just enough to make you remember its still there. This also hapened to a friend who updated his peogeot 3008 that has basically the same infotainment system so it’s not an isolated case. In the end, even if my DS is a little quirky i still think its huge value for the money, considering the comfort and design (at least when you buy second hand, lol). Sure little bits and bobs might break here and there, but they’re relatively cheap to fix especially compared to other “premium” brands.
I also think that primarily it’s DS7 owners on here, due to the size of our Facebook group. The DS7 is finally becoming an older car, and many people now own them pre-owned and are out of warranty. The older a car is the more different types of issues it has, so I guess it’s just becoming a more active forum
My personal view of DS is somewhat different. The range is being promoted as being a ‘premium’ brand, in my experience it’s not. I liked the look of the latest DS4, the spec looked good, & yes, the price attractive compared to others in the class. I purchased a used 2024 car, with 500+ miles showing. A ‘new’ car you might say. However, the problems I am experiencing with the some of the so called features of the car (which also attracted me to the car,) & the fact the dealers or DS have no solution to resolve the problems is very frustrating.
DS Customer Care have no solution, you get a number, but then say it’s down the the invisible technical team; the supplying DS dealer, (admittedly a long way from me, another problem) doesn’t want to know, & the nearest DS Warranty Dealer, (who have been very supportive) having raised an ISOLVE still hasn’t a solution.
In my view, this is not the way a relatively new ‘Premium Brand’ is going to succeed in this competitive market.
100% totally agree, no way a premium brand.
The DS4, especially the Etense Performance Plus looks good inside and out, but I’m sorry to, say build quality doesn’t match its looks.
Today I think another issue poked it’s head out, when I started the car the engine came straight on as there was no battery charge left, which is fine, the revs were about 1400 as it was cold, they then dropped to 900 after as the engine was warming up, all good so far, but they then went back up to 1400, even though the gauge was showing the engine warming up, it did this a couple of times , revs going up then down, it only stopped when I pulled over, switched everything off and restarted.
I’ve absolutely no confidence in the car or the brand what so ever.
I would absolutely consider a new DS when the company lease ends in two years. Based on our fleet of cars, almost all new cars are rushed to market.
There are gremlins in Audi, BMW, Volvo, Cupra, VW, Mercedes, Tesla and of course DS.
Only based on my 20000km ownership - Ive never been stranded with the DS4. Black screens made the car dangerous to drive but mechanically it still worked. My electrical drivetrain issue didnt make the car undrivable and was resolved within two days at the workshop. We
ve had VWs, Mercs, Volvos and others that developed faults that made them undrivable. One of our XC60s spent 2 months at the workshop until Volvo organized a buy back due to lack of battery cells in stock.
Really like the comfort, feeling/design and tactile quality of the DS.
