So I’ve noticed the gear changes between 2nd and 3rd in hybrid /comfort seem to drag out a bit causing the rpms to rise, which I find is not nice to listen to so I manually tap the gears up.
Does anyone else find the gears are slow to change at low speeds, or is it just me ?
I think I’m noticing it more because I havent charged the battery for a little while so even though the car is running in hybrid/comfort mode theres not enough charge in the traction battery to stay in running in electric at low speeds so the ICE is kicking .
I also find the fuel consumption in urban areas is fairly poor when running just on the ICE.
Doesnt the behaviour of our ICE change depending on engine temperature also?
My feeling is that when cold it runs longer on each gear compared to when warmed up.
In current weather conditions, the automatic transmission reaches operating temperature only after 20-25 minutes, so the ICE isn’t the cause. It warms up in 10 minutes.
20 -25 minutes for the auto gearbox to reach it’s operating temp, wow that seems like a long wait ?
I just find it holds the gears, especially 2nd going into 3rd, which then holds the rpm’s higher.
3rd to 4th is a little better, and then as the speed builds 4th up to 8th is fine as , its just the lower gears I find irritatingly longer to change by themselves so I end up doing it manually most of the time.
Whether it’s long or short doesn’t matter, but it’s worth remembering if you frequently drive short distances in cold weather. It’s important to use it gently. The gearbox will reward you with trouble-free operation. Remember that if the gearbox oil isn’t warmed up, it wears out faster—up to three times faster.
Took some video footage of how my DS4 etense behaves, for analysing shifting 100-150kg less weight but gearbox programming should be similar.
At slow acceleration shifting occurs around 2300rpm, with a little briskier acceleration it shifts at around 2800rpm on every gear up to 6th gear, when pedal is released to maintain speed it quickly shifts to highest possible gear - 8th.
Cant see what they could do differently with a “small” turbo charged engine in a heavy car?
I find exactly the same and often have to manually shift up through the lower gears using the steering wheel paddle. Depending on my mood it can be a wee bit annoying!!
