Low battery?

I’m trying to start the climate app, but I get the message: “Suspended low battery”. Which battery is this? The hybrid battery is fully charged

Welcome to the forum, Anton!
Sometimes (very often) the app fails to update to the correct numbers.
What does your app say regarding charging level for the hybrid battery?
Does it show full?
It’s the hybrid battery that accounts for the pre-heating.

Ok, thanks. I did not check the app but but the car showed fully charged (26km) Minus 3 degree C outside. I went outside and started the car, and tried again a couple of hours later. Then it worked ok. So I dont need to charge the 12v battery then.

Oh, you meant the climate app in the car?
I thought you meant remote controlling the pre-heating via your phone.
I don’t know if the 12v could be involved in any way, but it certainly is the hybrid battery that does the main work when you pre-heat the car, and if the hybrid battery is too low it won’t let you start the pre-heating.

Thanks again. I really ment the app on the phone. Sorry for misleading explanation. As long as i know which battery : )

I was told by my dealership technician that the app will not connect if the cars batteries are low OR if the car has not been driven for at least 15 minutes over the previous 7 days.

Its a battery saving feature on the car.

Thanks. I think I have to get a charger for the 12v battery then

Make sure its “smart charger”.

I’ve got a Ctek MSX 7.0, its very very good, just connect it up and walk away, it will check the battery before, during and after charging for any faults.

I did have a Noco, it was good for about 9 months then died on me so I had a new one sent out to me under warranty from the manufacturer, it lasted just over 12 months and died again, I later found out by looking online that Noco’s are prone to freezing during charging and theres no way to get them going again.

I think CTek offer a 5 year guarantee ?

Also make sure you connect the earth (Negative) cable from the charger to the cars earthing point on the chassis , NOT to the battery negative.

I just bought one today. Its not Ctek but by reading the instructions, it looks smarter than me. I will put it on tomorrow

When connecting 12v charger, it shows 40%. I believe the problem is solved

What’s that, about 12v?
Below 12.6v they say the battery is done.
Sounds like you need a new battery, but I’m far from an expert.

The 40% is Capasity, not voltage, mesured with no load. The voltage was above 12.6- After charging it`s fully charged

I’ve been told in the past when my Volvo’s battery was playing up that the BMS on cars only allow the 12v battery to hold around 80%, so even if you do a full charge that shows 100% on your charger the BMS will discharge around 20% as you start to drive the car after charging.

It’s a bit like having a safety buffer for over charging I think

How the BMS works is a bit technical, I dont really understand it if I’m honest.

BMS ( Battery Management System).

Thanks. It just show FULL . 80% is probably a good figure.

I’ll check mine today.
Running and not running to see what figures I get .

Just curious, how is the battery normally charged? by a dynamo or from the high volt battery?

The 12volt battery is charged via the Alternator on the side of the engine, to charge the battery the engine needs to run for at least 10 minutes with nothing (lights, radio, heaters, etc…) turned on. . Dynamos have not been fitted on cars since the 1970’s.

I’m sure I read somewhere that each start of the engine requires a 7 mile journey to replace the amount used to start the engine.

Dont know how accurate that is though?

OK, I have an E-tense 2020model and the engine is normally not running for trips less than 30km.

Same here.
I’m thinking the hybrid battery should be able to help with that, no?
