I have the matrix led head lights on my DS which is set to auto on the stalk, this shows as a green icon on the dash display, today whilst driving in light drizzly misty rain the green icon turned grey twice, it then turned back to green when I came off the motorway .
It can turn into grey if theres something obstructing view of radar/camera.
I get this a lot now when its cold outside and windscreen is covered by ice. Climatising doesnt really defrost the area in front of the radar and camera = grey icon (luckeli the heated screen takes care of the remaining ice after a while).
Never had it turn grey in mist or rain, must have been something that made the car confused?
I have experienced it being greyed out for no reason in the beginning of a travel. âEasy fixâ has been switching to manual and then back to automatic with the left stalk.
Today whilst driving I noticed the Auto icon on the dash totally disappear even though Auto was still selected on the stalk ??
I thought that usually the Auto icon is illuminate in green when the Auto is selected on the stalk, it turns grey when âconditions are not metâ.
For some reason the icon has now disappeared ?
Iâve tried switching to manual and back, turning off the gnition and restarting but itâs still not showing ?
Iâm not sure if this is just a coincidence but the hybrid battery was very low 1% and 1 mile remaining, but the auto lights icon seemed to disappear just as the Hybrid charge turned to 0 % on the dash ?
Coincidence or not ?
Iâve put the car on charge so Iâll see in morning if the Auto lights icon returns.
If it does, then that suggests the Auto lights are only available if theres charge in the Hybrid battery, surely not !
Is the Auto lights icon always shown on the dash if Auto is selected on the stalk ?
Or does the icon only show if conditions are met ?
Iâm now starting to doubt my self that it always shows when Auto is selected on the stalk !
When the light conditions for high beam isnât met the icon will disappear.
During daytime the icon shouldnt be visible in auto mode.
Could that be it, that it was to bright outside?
That the icon disappeared at the same time that charge reached 0% must be a coincidence? Ive driven my car with zero charge and fully working Matrix high beam.
Same thing happened to me this monday. I set out at 6:40 am and I had about two hours of driving in the dark and the auto icon sometimes was visible and sometimes not.
Would be nice to know what those âconditionsâ areâŚ
To be honest Iâve no idea of what the conditions are.
Sometimes when I think it should be dark enough, my DS has a different opinion, same thing the other way around. When I think its bright enough to not use high beam, my precious little DS activates the high beam and lets the lights dance
I checked it last night in the dark and the icon was showing with 0% on the battery, so as youâve both said it must only appear when it can activate in correct conditions.
On my 2022 model DS4 Petrol, actually registered in April 2024, the auto dip is a joke! Set to Auto, one minute shows the Auto light on main beam, but doesnât dip when a car approaches, then doesnât revert to main beam. Then, for some reason dip, it will show the Auto light, then it disappears on main beam when selected manually. USELESS.
I might be wrong but if you have the Matrix LED lights they dont always switch back to dipped headlights when a car approaches, they adjust the angle of the beam .
You can see this on motorways, the lights stay on main beam (blue symbol), but as a car approaches or you approach a car in front you will see the main beam angle change not to dazzle the other drivers, but the symbol stays blue.
So Iâve also an update :
My auto dipped matrix lights have also stopped working, this is since the car was at the dealers a few weeks ago.
I do sometimes see the âAutoâ icon on the dash display but its in lit in grey which means temporally unavailable, but it doesnât turn green (available), it stays grey for a few minutes and then disappears off the screen.
Iâll take it out tonight for a drive to see if it becomes available.
My car has had two new batteries, two new keys, one new control module, countless updates, full factory re-set hard boot & PDI.
Car is still the same.
They now say it must be a software update issue, but it could be months before an update is written and released.
Personally I dont think they really believe itâs a software issue, I think they are just out of ideas, and itâs the easiest option to pass it onto another department.
The dealer maintains the auto dip is working, bit like your explanation with Matrix lights, however when on dip, they donât revert to main beam & the blue light doesnât come on.
In my view, theyâre not right.
Regarding the speed/road sign recognition function, they âattempted BSI update & configurationâ, no change. Replaced BSI, they road tested & said it was working, however, as I drove back home, it reverted back to incorrect readings again! They also replaced 12v battery , however, the replacement was low, so stop start function still doesnât always work, advised long drive may cure, or put on trickle charger overnight!
I took the car out earlier to see if the auto dipped work, it did.
Its the first time its work for a while, the weather was dry and clear, so Iâm not sure whats going on.
My son has the same system on his Vauxhall Astra, basically the same car as my DS, both made by Stellantis, he said his also switches off for no apparent reason.
Taking the car for a long drive was the go to answer from my my service department as well.
It didnt solve anything !
Did it go from green to blue, & back again on the driver display though? Iâm still not convinced it works because I was flashed by uncoming drivers, & in bright sunlight tofay the headlights come on! Seems all Stellantis vehicles have same âfeaturesâ; the hybrid 2008 the warranty dealer loaned me had very similar controls & features of the DS. Would keep clear of any Stellantis products!
One of the things that works without a single flaw is the Matrix headlights.
Doesnt miss a beat if the required conditions are met (same as for other makes).
If the car think that the conditions isnt met auto will be greyed out, if its sufficient light it will disappear.
If everything works it will be green, but - if you manually dip the headlights while in auto the function will be deactivated.
To activate again - pull the stalk (will give a quick flash of full beam and potentially blinds incoming traffic)or switch from âAutoâ mode to âManualâ mode and back again (ring on stalk).
I usually use the later method to avoid blanding others.
Yes, the dipped beam/main beam went from green to blue, and I could see the beam changing.
The Auto icon stayed green for the full journey.
DS, Vauxhall, Peugeot all use same platform.
My sons Vauxhall Astra PHEV is just like driving my DS, the controls are almost identical and work exactly like my DS.
