Hi Everyone. I bought a 2020 DS7 Etense from Stellantics. Nice car but recently noticed on a trip that when you go over a pothole or manhole cover the rear end of the car skips. Quite unnerving the first time it happened.
The car hasn’t got the Active Scan which I understand only comes with the Opera trim. I am trying to get DS to look at it but I am told it will be in December and have to pay for the diagnostics. The car came with extended warranty. Has anyone experienced this and what was the solution. I have read somewhere that it is a known issue. I have checked the tyre pressures and made sure they are within the recommended limits. And it appears to be a bit better in sports mode. Any advice, please.
Hi Mike, and welcome!
I think I have noticed this too, if I understand correctly what you mean.
I have just assumed that it is because the quite heavy battery pack our hybrid cars have, but maybe there’s something else to it too.
What did you hear about it being a known issue? Would it have something to do with a fault in the suspension?
Hi Jay,
I read about on the DS7 French forum and on carbuyer DS 7 owner reviews in the UK and somewhere else I can’t remember. The implication being DS are aware but won’t do anything about it. Mine is the Performance trim and one “expert” surmised that they didn’t get sports/soft suspension system balance right. I will get it checked as soon as possible to ensure that the suspension is ok.
ok, I’ll be interested in hearing about the result.
I do have the active scan option (Rivoli trim) in Comfort mode, but I can’t say I’ve noticed much difference, but maybe I just haven’t been paying attention to it. I do drive a lot in electric mode, where the active scan isn’t enabled. But I’ll try comfort mode and pay attention and we’ll see if that makes a difference.
It is a known issue many have had their rear suspension arms replaced under warranty
I am taking the car to the DS garage today to check the suspension and I will mention your point that it is a known issue. I do have extended warranty so hopefully should cover it. Thanks.
Unfortunately the biggest problem you have isnt the suspension, its Stellantis. Ive got a 21 plate Opera Etense 225 i purchased from DS dealership in Scotland at the end of Feb this year. Its been in and out of Stellantis on numerous occcasions for various faults such as the classic rear light filling with water, front shocks and bushes replaced, overhead control unit leaking water and last but not least the voice activation system not working.
This last episode with the voice activation has meant the car has been in the dealership for 6 weeks and is still there with no indication as to when it will be fixed. To be fair i have got a Peugeot loan car. The warranty ran out after the fault had started so it was covered, it has since expired and as a result my car is stuck in the garage. The vehicle is totally driveable and i have asked if i can have it back while DS Technical try and figure out what the problem is. Apparently if i take the car out of the dealership it will no longer be covered under warranty. I explained i had the extended warranty so it would be covered, i was then told the extended warranty only covers 1 hour of diagnostic and wouldnt apply in my case, so not covered. Also worth noting the extended waranty doesnt cover water ingress either. Basically the extended warranty seems to be a waste of time and money.
Be warned as well if DS technical get involved in the diagnostics it takes forever. They basically tell the dealership which diagnostic test to run, dealership does it and reports back to DS Technical, who then take a minimum 2-3 days to respond. This seems to go on indefinitely. In the meantime the dealership cant take any action or do anything until DS Technical say so. I believe that after 8 weeks DS Technical might send out an engineer, fingers crossed.
It so dissapointing for what is promoted as a premium brand to have way less than premium service.
On a positive note i live the car.
Further to my previous posts, I took the car to DS garage last Friday and they said I have to pay £42 for the diagnostics as it is not covered under the extended warranty. I paid because I just want to find out the problem. About a couple of hours later I received a phone call to say the shock absobers needs changing before they can investigate the suspension issues and they can’t order the parts until extended warranty confirms that they will cover the cost and that they have not had a response from them.
I therefore asked for their complaints procedure to be emailed to me, which they are yet to do. Hopefully, I will get a response this week regarding the extended warrany. Furthermore, I put it in writing to them the suspension issues is a known and widely reported on DS forums including France.
As you said, I also had the rear lights replaced as they were willing filling up with water. Again, they tried to wriggle out of the warranty paying but they finally agreed to pay. It is such a shame because they have a good classy product and if they will listen to their customers and improve it could be excellent. Finally, they told me there are no shock absorbers for my vehicle in the country and it will take time to get them!
Man, talk about hassle with this company. I hope everything will go well at the end for you guys.
Myself, I have time in December to fix the rear light water thing and also battery recall replacement.
And then in January I will have an insurance case fixed after hitting a deer a month ago.
And yesterday I accidentally scraped right front against a parking place pole. Hopefully the front is in one single piece and it gets replaced anyway in the insurance case.
It’s just a bit much at the moment… lol
Hi, guys! I own a 2023 DS 7 PureTech 225 (Rivoli trim) and have the same issue with rear suspension. By analyzing different reviews, I understood that it is a known issue, but somehow the manufacturer insists it is a “normal behavior” of the car. I also have two other fellows with DS 7 PureTech 225 and they noticed the same. Cheers!
I had a recall letter from DS regarding the rear suspension. The suspension rods may need to be changed free of charge. Contact a DS dealer; they should do it if the car is on the recall list.
Further to my previous post about the rear suspension issue, after backwards and forwards with DS service and Extended Warranty and Bounce tests, etc. Extended warranty finally agreed to pay for new shock absorbers and they were fixed over two weeks ago. And straight away the handling has improved. It appears that the recall you refer to may be related to cars manufactured in 2023 mine is 2020 DS7 E-Etense, but worth checking with the dealer as you said. Good luck, everyone.
That’s good; yes my was 2023.
Hi Michael which DS Deakership was this at?
DS Romford, Greater London.
Good luck
Hi, I also have this annoying problem of the rear bounce. I thought it was a “normal” thing due to the battery pack. Can I ask you how you managed to convince the garage to change the suspension under warranty?
Hi, It was quite a tussle. Mine was quite severe, we had three unnerving situations on the dual carriage when the car lost its composure momentarily affect hitting a bump. I had only had it for 4 weeks by then.
I took it to them to check, had to pay diagnostics fee, as apparently it is not covered by the extended warranty. They diagnosed replacement of the rear shock abosrbers. From then on it was a 4 week “fight” with extended warranty during which I made it clear I will take my case to the regulators/ombudsman., etc. . Eventually, they asked for a video of a “bounce test” and thereafter approved the claim. Good luck.
Hello Mike,
it would be really helpful if you could share that “bounce test” video here. I think my suspension is terrible too, but I’m not sure if it qualifies as defective?
Hello Mike,
Unfortunately, I don’t have a copy of the video as the garage sent it to extended warranty for them to assess my claim. In fact, the bounce test was requested by extended warranty.
If you feel it is that bad take it back to the DS dealer and they will perform a diagnostic test. And if they determine it is that bad then your next battle may be with extended warranty (if you have one).
if your car is still within the manufacturer’s warranty then it may be easier.
