ScreenwashTop Up?

So today, after owning the car for just a few weeks, I found myself having to fill up the screen wash for the very first time, when it ran empty WITHOUT any warning :rage:.

I just cannot get my head round why a car with so much tech, and with options that can easily push the cost up to ÂŁ45000, does not have a low level warning for screen wash ?

How much extra would such a simple feature cost to add into the cost of the car ?
For me swiping the wiper blades across a dry dusty screen is just horrendous.

Then, when you go to fill it up, the ridiculous opening on the washer bottle is at an angle so you have to almost dribble the liquid in to stop it overflowing.

And to top it off, you find that the washer bottle only holds around 2.5ltrs ???
2.5lts , I can urinate more than 2.5lts

I honestly thought there must be an airlock or blockage stopping more fluid from going in, so I took the car for a run, hoping to shift any blockage or airlock, but nope, it only holds around 2.5ltrs, just crazy…

My previous Volvo had it nailed, the bottle held around 5ltrs , you could drop a large funnel into the opening for easy filling, and when you operated the screen wash it would spray the fluid for a couple of seconds before the wipers swept across the screen, so ensuring the blades are not sweeping a dry dusty screen.

Come on DS, this is such a simple thing to add to your cars.

Oddly though, I’ve checked this out online and did find a section from a manual that shows a low level warning lamp indicator for the screen wash bottle, so maybe some models do have it ?
Is it just the DS4 that doesn’t, or just certain spec of DS4 ?

This last paragraph is a bit comical.

I’ve had my car for 17000km / 7 month, filled the washer only once during this time.
As it wasn’t empty at that time I didn’t think about how much I put in.
But - compared to my old Volvo V60CC I don’t have to top up as much, guess it’s down to the lack of headlight washers…
My Volvo did almost take 4ltr fluid, but only almost. There was always a few deciliters left in the (English name!?) bottle., really frustrating as I didn’t want to throw away perfectly good fluid but I didn’t want to have it in the trunk either.

I believe that my car should have a waring for low level, but I’m not sure.
Will make it my mission the next few days to empty the washer fluid to see if there’s a indicator

Be interesting to see if you get a low level warning ?

I’m sure theres a thread on here somewhere that mentions theres no low level warning indicator, which I sort of dismissed it, but now that mine has ran empty I know for sure theres not one, at least not on my car…

It’s problematic that at least in Sweden, there’s not anything certain about the specs.
My car is an “Exclusive” business + or something. Don’t know how that translates to the Rivoli, Trocadero or other specs? Opera was the highest spec and this is the second highest in Sweden.
Things that wasn’t on my spec but my car has it anyway.
360 camera
Easy open trunk
Inductive charger for phone
Auto dimming rear view mirrors (the outer ones)
Didn’t miss out of anything that was written on the spec.

Will try to empty the washer fluid tank tomorrow :+1:

Couldn’t wait until tomorrow, emptied the tank - no indicator :frowning:
Refilled fron a 4ltr bottle, seems like 2,5-3ltr capacity is correct.
This is what was left in the bottle.

One more thing that I didn’t know I had, an alarm.
It triggered when I closed the hood…

Well, at least we know know.

I’ll top mine up weekly, nothing worst than having the wipers do a sweep on a dusty dry screen.

Yeah I found out the hard way as well, I left the drivers window open by a tiny amount, and the alarm kept going off, it took me ages to realise it was the tiny gap on the drivers door window, you couldn’t even see the gap, but when I nudge all the windows up I noticed that the drivers one went up ever so slightly, and the alarm stopped going off.
It must be super sensitive ?

Mine is the Performance plus, it came with the standard spec for that model, heads up display, sat nav, 360 camera, auto dimming door mirrors with the DS night time spot lights, scrolling indicators, ect ect, but it also had these optional extras already on the car, the bigger 20" Sydney alloys, White pearl paint with a Black pearl roof, auto tailgate, Tech pack & Comfort pack.
The sales guy at the dealership said that every so often the manufacturer will throw some extras on a car for it to be displayed in the showroom ?
I guess I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

DS also stopped making the Performance Plus, so maybe mine was one of the last to be made and they had some bits left over on the shelf and thought throw them on that one

Its a stunning looking car, inside and out, I just have to get my head round some of the odd & annoying quirks.

Mine has the same except I was going to choose the paint you have but accidently chooses a different one :joy:
My was a order car, had to wait an extra three or four months as I wanted the DS active scan suspension.
Mine is rolling on 19" rims, leather comfort seats with massage, heat and ventilated seats.
I actually don’t know what Ooera trim has that I don’t, might be white leather and panoramic sunroof.
It was a real shame that night vision was so damn expensive, I really wanted that but couldn’t justify the cost…
