Steering and Cruise control

Hi. Im driving through France (from UK) and trying to use the cruise control. It wont activate and i get the message about unsuitable conditions. The car also alarms telling me to keep my hands on the steering wheel though they have left it and I see a flasing symbol suggesting, I think, that I am out of the lane. Even with lane control on the car tries to wander out of lane.
The cruise control has worked in the past but most of my driving is in London so I have not used it for several months.
Any suggestions welcome.

I’m not sure if this is a correct answer or just a wild guess.
Does it make a difference that you’er driving on the opposite side of the road ?

Probably a stupid suggestion !

Well, that’s something I hadnt thought of! Im guessing not because it’s measuring the distance in front not to the side.
Today I have no steering wheel warnings but, despite perfect weather, it says conditions are not suitable when I try the cruise control.

Try cleaning the cameras on the windscreen and the sensor on the lower part of the front grill.

I drive my LHD DS7 in France (France resident)… This usually happpens if traffic very dense/twisting routes. Also in heavy rain/spray.

In addition, the French have a habit of filling cracks in the road surface with bitumen - which the car interprets as lane parkings esp in mod sunny conditions (hence pulling out of painted lanes…) This good generally as roads dont bteak up as easily but…there are drawbacks.

Finally, French dont use ‘reflective’ (glass beaded road paint as per UK) road paint so unless road marks are quite fresh the car can struggle. They do repaint quite frequently in France…

Be patient and wait till traffic is calmer, roads more straight and it will pick

Thanks John. Intereting points and rather surprising given the origin of the car! I return to uk tomorrow so I can see if it improves. The hands on the wheel message has stopped activating so maybe my hands were particularly dry. Some digital sound desks didnt work well for me either.

The “Be vigilant” command could be because you are wearing sunglasses, the more sensible half of this relationship gets them all the time when she is wearing hers. Or wipe the camera lens which is just above the centre of the steering wheel boss. Cruise control as other have said is either a dirty camera or their is lots of rain/spray, plus (from experience) make sure you are pressing the right button to initiate it rather than the resume button.

Thanks Richard. I stopped at a DS garage in Troyes and was told the issue with cruise control is likely to be a fault or small shift in position of the radar. Apparently this needs computerised calibration. Im hoping this can be covered by the warranty.
I’ve never understood the relationship between the lane control button and the software but turning them both off seemed to help with the steering wheel warning.

Hope that sorts the issue for you. There seems to be some variance between cars with the lane keeping assist, on our DS7 we have it permanently disabled where others have to switch it off every time they start the car.

I have to cancel every time though i wouldn’t if it worked properly!
I cant see a camera above the steering wheel. Could you send a pic?

Hopefully the cameras shows as two red circles in the black diamond, which is just above the centre of the steering wheel in our car.
That is irritating having to switch the lane departure warning off every time.
