Mine fluctuates between, working, sticking in, sticking out or half & half.
I think it might be affecting the alarm as well because its sounded twice over the last week or so if I open the tailgate without using the fob to unlock the car.
Both times its sounded I have opened the tailgate by pressing the hidden button on the tailgate but not used the key fob to unlock the car, its just been in my pocket, and the faulty handles was in the half in half out position.
So as mentioned above, my DS4 is booked in on the 20th of Jan to have another door handle replaced, the front passenger, this will be the second handle replaced under warranty, but this week another one has started to play up, the drivers door handle pops out when I unlock the car but the door stays locked, so I have to open the passenger door, lean in and open the drivers door from the inside.
This seems to only happen with the cold weather, so something must be seizing inside the door ?
I hope it dont for you, but itās clearly an issue with these pop out handles, other owners have had similar issues as well.
My dealership has said theyāve come across a number of them and now even stock handles "just in case " !
OMG,
Now another handle not popping out.
So far Iāve had the rear drivers side changed a few months ago.
A little while ago the front passenger started sticking, its not popping out at all unless I push on it, and it then opens enough to grab onto.
Then a few days ago the drivers side handle would pop out but the door was staying locked and had to be opened from the inside, its still like this but only if the outside temp is col, obviously something sticking within the mechanics..
Now the rear passenger side has decided to stop popping out.
So in a space of 4-5 months all the handles have developed some sort failure.
I should of just bought a convertible and climbed over to get in.
Iāve looked at the photos that Avatar PL uploaded showing how to remove the door card but unfortunately they dont show the rear of the main door handles whilst still in the door , iām guessing though the hard part is removing the door card.
Looking at the photos Andrew put on here showing the handle already removed ,there doesnt seem to be much on the rear that is āfixableā, it looks pretty much like a sealed complete unit.
Iām finding that two of my handles dont pop out, but the other one playing up does pop out but the door doesnt unlock unless opened from the inside ?
My guess its all down to the same fault, something to do with that white unit in photos.
Its crazy that all 4 handles have basically failed within a month or so of each other, 2 of them within days of each other.
I was reading Avatar PL post about his faulty handles and they also failed within a shot time period of each other.
Youād think DS would address this issue instead of just changing handles until the warranties run out.
Given the consistency, I wonder if there is a bad batch of handles or a different component manufacturer that made these to not the same standard. [My handles seem ok - but your posts are making me nervous that I could see the same at some point]
This is how both passenger handles are currently functioning in the locked and unlocked position.
They are sticking in the mid position.
Also lately, the drivers handle does fully pop out and fully retract, when unlocking and locking, but on occasion even in the fully open position the door does not unlock and needs to be opened by leaning across from the passenger side and pulling on the internal handle.
This issue with the drivers door is more frequent if the outside temp is cold.
But the issue with the passenger doors, as seen in the photo, is there no matter if the weather is cold or not.
You can see that the wrapping on the handle does not interfere with the opening or closing of the handle as the wrapping only covers the external surface of the handle and does not pinch at all with the body of the door or handle mechanism.
No, what I meant was that maybe the wrapping affected the condition of the door handles. My door handles close after a while (5-10 minutes) when the doors are open.
No.
Mine are the same as yours, they do stay open for a preset time and then close, but not the ones shown in the photo.
The wrap is only on the very outer surface, it does not fold over beyond the chrome outer surface handle.
It is also very thin so doesnt touch any part of the door body.
Iāve thoroughly checked and these no part of any of the handles touching any part of the door body, theres a clear gap all the way around each wrapped handle.
Iām returning to the topic of wrapping because during the wrapping process (it takes half an hour each), the door handles wanted to retract after 5 minutes, and the person who wrapped them didnāt allow it. This could have caused problems with the door handles later. Thatās my theory, because my door handles retract even when the doors are open.
Damaging one door handle is accident, damaging four is a disaster.
Now, when I wrap my door handles, Iāll definitely disconnect both 12V batteries. Just in case.
Just in case, what sequence would you disconnect the two batteries ?
And what will this do in regards to the cars settings, ie: will anything be lost ?
Start with negative under the armrest and then the positive in engine compartment.
Both has quick connectors - seems like the French new this was going to happen on a regular basis
You will loose date and time (my car at least) everything else is remembered.
Iāve just done a little bit of an experiment with the handles.
If you unlock the car, dont turn on the ignition, leave the door or doors physically open, leave the key in the car, the handles will stay in the out position indefinitely, my doors were left open like this for 40 minutes and all the handles stayed in the out position, as soon as all the doors were pushed closed the handles retracted.
If you physically close the door or doors, the handles will then retract within a minute or so, even with the key in the car, obviously it doesnāt lock.
So its a case of, unlocking, open door/doors, put the key in the car, keep doors physically open until job is done.
At least thats how it works on my car.
So I think thats how the guy wrapping the handles managed to wrap all the handles with out interfering with the handles trying to keep retracting whilst he was wrapping them.
