Stop/Start feature

So, this feature where, when I stop in front of traffic lights, my engine stops, and starts again when I release the brake…

Yes, I enjoy the silence, but;

  • is this good for the engine, to stop and start so often?
  • will this use more fuel?
  • is it overall, especially when I only stop for a short while, the engine stops, and kind of like the same moment I want to start again, not damaging for the car?
    -sometimes the start is a little ‘bumpy’ - it doesn’t feel smooth in

So, long story short: is this good, is this really useful and is this necessary? (And can I disable it and should I?)

Cheers!

  1. If it was bad for the engine, they wouldn’t implement it.
  2. It will use less fuel.
  3. See #1.

Since I have the E-tense it’s a really good feature, although my engine has already stopped as soon as a let go of the gas pedal.
However, my previous car was a petrol Merc with start/stop feature and I could enable/disable it with a simple button.
I was quite active with that button because when stopping only for a second or two, I didn’t want to let the engine stop, but when stopping at, for example, a red light, I let the feature do its job.
If you have a petrol/diesel engine only, it’s usually a small battery that handles the starts and that battery can obviously drain, which temporarily disables the start/stop feature automatically, so better to choose when the feature should do its job.
That’s my 2 cents.
