‘Trip Computer’ on Instrument Cluster

Fredrik recently and kindly pointed me in the right direction when I was trying to display my overall average mpg on the instrument cluster. However, alongside it is what I believe to be the distance travelled since the last reset of the trip computer and also an mph figure (circled in yellow in the attached photo). The query I now have is, what is this mph figure? I can’t believe it will be my average mph over the 650 miles travelled as that’s surely way below what it realistically must be?

No biggie really, but it seems to be a bit of a useless metric and is accordingly a wee bit annoying to look at!

It is indeed your average speed since last reset.

Thank DSJay, I thought that must be the case as there’s no other obvious conclusion to draw. It must take into account the times the car is at 0mph in stationary traffic making the metric, at least to me!, entirely meaningless - its a pity it can’t be removed from the display :unamused:

Well, it’s not the most useful intel, I’ll give you that.
But as you noticed, the average speed is usually a lot lower than what you think, so it could be useful in providing info to better plan your trips.

What about displaing current fuel consumption? I was not able to find it, I can only see that “average” information about last trip

I’ve also failed to find mometary consumption, it does not seem to exist.
But I might be wrong and would be glad if someone found it

I don’t have in my DS7 either.
Don’t think the french cares about that info.
Maybe it’s a hybrid thing, making it complex to show momentary value from two fuels at the same time. Idk.

I just feel that the metrics the infotainment system is able to display on the instrument cluster aren’t as informative or, indeed, as accurate as they could or should be. For example, my ‘battery range’ depletes by several miles within a mile or so of beginning a journey while the change in my ‘fuel range’ when the battery is depleted doesn’t appear in any way representative of the distance I have travelled i.e. the ‘fuel range’ can drop by ten miles within a couple of miles of driving with the battery at 0% or having driven on battery my ‘fuel range’ can increase (i.e. my photo above shows a ‘fuel range’ of 87 miles but having since driven 11 miles on a partially charged battery earlier today, which depleted the battery back to 0%, I now have a ‘fuel range’ of 93 miles despite not having refuelled).

I’m paranoid I’ll run out of petrol despite what the ‘fuel range’ claims and find myself more reliant on the gauge to the right of the cluster that displays in segments how much petrol is left in the tank. I hope at least that is accurate!

If anything, the momentarily number will be the most difficult to go by to know how far you can drive with the remaining battery/fuel.
If you find that the estimation fluctuates a lot, it has to do with you driving differently (e.g. urban vs highway etc., or more/less aggressive).
The estimation takes several factors into account; consumption the last few miles, outside temp (for battery range) and comfort features active (battery range).
So when the range suddenly changes more than expected, it’s probably just recalculating with new input.
You can notice this very clearly shortly after entering an urban area after having traveled on highway for a longer time just before.

Btw, I just found in the manual info about momentary consumption.
It says that it can be displayed in petrol and diesel versions, but not in hybrids.
Instead, we have the percentage that shows how far the journey has been made on purely battery power.
Useful…lol

Thanks, that’s useful to realise although I feel it mostly accounts for the fluctuation in battery range. I still can’t quite fathom why my fuel range changes in quite the way I’ve described above!

Interesting to know. I can’t say I’ve noticed this percentage figure anywhere, but I’m guessing it’s only shown amongst the figures in the summary that displays briefly on the instrument cluster at the end of each journey and is something that’s kinda passed me by! As you say, useful?!

It’s one of the three tabs you get when you click the end button on the right stick (wiper stick).
The other to are trip 1 & 2. You scroll through them with each click.
At least that’s what it is on my DS7, but my understanding is that all DS works very similar with these kind of features.

On my DS4 petrol car, this display is meaningless in my view. Currently the fuel consumption is showing low 30’s; prior to the last fill up, it was low 40’s. Don’t believe the average speed either. Is on the list for next dealer visit, but don’t hold out much help.

The best you can do yourself is to use one of the custom trip meter and reset it every time you fill up. Just do the math at every fill up and you’ll see whether it correct or not.
If it’s correct, so is likely the avg speed too.

I did reset trip 2 after the last fill up, & that’s what is showing, which is way different to previous reset. Trip 1 starts at 400mpg, goes to 100; it’s all over the place!
What’s the point of offering these so called features, if they don’t reflect facts? Just further examples of the terrible quality of DS

I meant that you should make a calculation yourself using the amount of gas you filled up with and the trip km (miles) and do the math, and then compare it to what the cars avg consumption says.
