I bought a used DS7 last year (70 reg) and have had a few issues. I bought extended warranty for the car but wondered if anyone had similar issues to mine and whether the warranty repaired them.
heated seats. The driver side (think passenger side) heated seats have never worked properly, I have used them quite a lot but its a lottery as to whether they actually heat up or not! Recently, it basically hasn’t worked. Couple of questions, I leave the seat switched on constantly (as it does not reset each time you turn the ignition off), should I be making a conscious effort to switch it off before I turn the car off and back on when I do my next trip? Has anyone had a similar problem and had it repaired under warranty, as I’m being quoted £170 per hour for diagnostics and have been told it could potentially take 5/6 hours just to diagnose if they need to pull the seat apart! I’d it’s not under warranty then I face a massive bill for nothing…
keyless entry. The keyless lock and unlock works on every door except the drivers door… Am I missing something? I have ordered a battery to replace in the key to see if that makes a difference but can’t understand why that would be the issue as it works on all other doors
sometimes the rear drivers side door deadlocks and I can’t understand what triggers it. I have child locks on the back but it only ever happens on the one side. When it deadlocks, even from the outside the door won’t open no matter how many times I lock/unlock the car. My husband has managed to trigger it somehow, thinks it maybe by doing the window button in the back, as if the electrics have jammed up but it makes now sense
car play. I use the android car play with the lead but sometimes it just doesn’t register the phone, I plug the cable in and it charges but just won’t give the car play option. Only happened a couple of times but not sure what the cause is.
Welcome to the community, Michelle!
Regarding #2, I had the same issue with my 2020 DS7 that I bought a year ago and the shop said that the electric door handles risk wearing out eventually. I had the drivers handle replaced at a cost of ~500 euro because I want it to work the way it is intended.
Ok that’s interesting, I wonder if that’s under warranty or classed as wearing and tear?
I’m not very impressed if it’s wear and tear as surely it shouldn’t need replacing after 4 years?
I really don’t know.
I didn’t have any regular warranty left and I have no idea exactly how the extended warranty works.
Going by what they told me it feels like a wear & tear thing, at least after warranty.
They also said that many use the feature where you can opt to only open the driver door automatically, in order to “spare” the other doors for the wear.
Regarding 1 & 2
Have you asked your dealership to check out the two auxiliary batteries ?
Theres the main one in the engine bay and a smaller one hidden under the arm rest inside the car for the DS4 .
I think perhaps the second battery is in the boot for the DS7 ?
Check out the posts on keyless entry & welcome lights not working.
I’ve had, and still having issues with both these features.
Others are having similar issues.
Basically if the voltage is dropping, even slightly on the auxiliary batteries the car will prematurely hibernate some features such as keyless entry, welcome lights, heated seats ect.
Its a battery saving feature but it seems to be that its a bit too sensitive and knocks off features too soon.
The voltage drop just messes things up.
My car has been in and out of the dealership 6 times already in 3 months, they’ve tried a number of things but failed each time, so Stellantis actually sent one of the head technicians just before Xmas to try and find out the issue.
He has sent a load of data off the car back to France, we are currently waiting for an update from him what the next steps are.
NB.
Locks and lights can also be effected if the key fob is stored too close to the car after its been locked up.
Car needs to be driven for at least 15 minutes non stop every 7 days otherwise some features go into hibernation mode.
If the doors are unlocked and locked without actually opening the doors and driving the car they can go into hibernation.
You can also set each of doors to open/lock independently from each other, perhaps you’ve done this by mistake ?
I’m not sure how this is done, but I think it might be something to do with the key fob, it’s in the manual I think ?
These are all advisories in the manual.
But I would still get those two batteries checked out.
The DS4 and the DS7 doesn’t at all have the same keyless entry. (At least not the models that have a few years on them.)
And if it was the battery, not only the driver door would have issues.
Thanks, I will maybe go down this route but my issue is I don’t want to be charged the earth for these features that should be working, to be diagnosed. May I ask have you had to pay for diagnostics to be done with all your investigations?
I had nothing to pay.
The car is under warranty so the dealership has to seek out the issues.
My car has been into the dealership 5 or 6 times, I’ve not paid a penny, not even for the loan cars they provided.
Did you buy the car from a main dealer ?
It doesn’t really matter though because under the UK Sales of Good Act the company you buy from has to rectify any problems.
It’s refereed as POS, Point Of Sale.
Your sales contract would be with the garage/dealership you purchased the vehicle from.
Independent car sales/garages though are a bit naughty because they like buying vehicles from auctions or other traders that still have some manufacturers warranty left on the vehicle, so when something goes wrong they tell the owner to take it up with the dealership, but the law actually says it’s the company you purchased the car from that has to deal with the issues.
At the very least they would need to pay for any diagnostics.
Dealerships can be clever though as well, they say you pay for diagnostics and if a fault is found they dont charge while the car is under warranty, but if no fault is found you still have to pay for the diagnostics, basically it’s time spent checking out your vehicle, even though in most cases it’s a simple case of plugging the vehicle into a computer and having a cup of tea while the computer runs some checks.
The problem is that dealerships dont really like warranty work because they can only charge a certain fee back to the manufacturer for labour and any parts required are suppled by the manufacturers, so theres not much money to be made…
If you take a car in for work that is out of warranty they charge you their standard rate for diagnostic and then for the labour to replace any faulty parts , plus the cost of any parts fitted.
But if the vehicle is still under warranty the amount they can charge back to the vehicle manufacturer is nothing compared to the cost charged to an owner for a vehicle out of warranty.
My point about the drivers door was, I think you can set the doors to lock/unlock independently to the other doors, so maybe this has been done without realising it ?
I think theres a way to do it on the key fob ?
Just a thought !
It’s like you can set the electric tail gate to open to different heights depending on how tall you are to reach the close button, again this is also done by using the key fob to set it up.
Also wouldn’t the keyless entry be part of a pack, such as the Comfort Pack ?
If so wouldn’t the keyless entry feature have the same set up the across the rang if your car had it included in one of the packs ?
I know the packs do change around.
For instance the Comfort Pack on my car includes the Keyless Entry, Welcome lights, electric tailgate & Lane Assist, late 2023 build date.
But on the early 2024 model the Comfort Pack included Active Suspension but not the electric tail gate.
I’m just thinking that the actual keyless entry system and how it works / operates would be the same across the range.
Or does it differ in the way it operates depending on build date and spec ?
You might be right Jay ?
On the DS7 (my car’s model generation) you can tell the car to open the driver door only, but not the other way around, and it’s a setting in the car menu.
I don’t think there’s been two different keyless systems available simultaneously. But I could be wrong.
Your proxy opening system is probably the successor to our grab-the-handle opening system.
Btw, I’m actually currently driving a DS4 loaner, since my car is in the shop atm.
Can’t say I’m a fan of the proxy system. Feels too much like you need to double check that it’s working every time.
And for example, after putting shopping bags in the car, I’m putting the shopping cart back 20m away and during that time the car locks the doors only to open them again 8 sec later when I’m approaching the car again. Feels very unnecessary.
I’d definitely opt for the (probably) older grab-the-handle system, if I could, on a new car.
This is why I think theres an issue with mine.
It just seems so sensitive.
Anything within 7mtrs and the car unlocks/locks, including the welcome lights operating, well they do if working as per manual, at the moment mine dont.
But then if it does unlock the car and turn on the lights and you dont drive the car it will put everything into hibernation mode so nothing works until you use the fob manually to open the doors plus you have to take the car on a 15 minute journey.
It’s all a bit overkill .
I’m sure though I read somewhere when trying to sort my locks out that you can set it up to unlock any door independently of the others , or just the tailgate ?
So any door or doors can be unlocked without it effecting the others, why would this be an option or benefit ?
I can understand just the drivers door but not one of the others.
Another oddity is if the car has put the locks & lights into hibernation mode you can approach the car with the key in you pocket and without touching the key the car will switch on all the dash and display lights inside the car with the doors still locked , it also starts something up under the bonnet, not sure what, but you can hear a slight whirring sound.
It all switches back off after about 5 minutes of walking away from the car .
