Hi,
Just wanted to update you guys on my new discovery!
Everyone that has driven an old SAAB knows about their fantastic feature “Night panel”, a setting where everything except speedo is blacked out.
I`m glad to share with you that DS has taken this one step further and introduced a new feature which I would like to call “Focus mode” or maybe “ZEN mode”.
What could this be you might ask - well, I`m here to tell you
DS effectively removes all informatio, turns off all panels, removes the extra functions that could affect the pure experience off driving - no infotainment, no driving modes, no radar, no parking sensors and most important of all - no fuel gauge to be concerned about, no sorry - no speedo that demands attention
What a blast of sarcasm there
This really really shouldn’t be possible! Unless it turns out a fuse is blown or something, this is a serious software issue. I’ve had something like this only once luckily, but the system should at least reboot automatically as soon as possible, as mine did. You’re absolutely right filing a claim about this!
Nevertheless, I think you’re onto something there. Something like a Zen mode can very well be a good idea. Turning off the center screen and only showing minimal info on the instrument cluster. Maybe even just the HUD (if appliccable) turning off the instrument cluster as well
Sarcasm is always good
I`m not to upset about the fault, it happens and it could just as well have been another brand of car.
Car is at workshop to be looked at by Monday, free rental car aquired through DS assistance.
But - there was some hassle getting the rental car!
I initially told them that I could drive the car to dealership, they then told me that by taking it to the dealer i wouldnt get a free rental as the car was drivable… DS assistance requires the car to be towed to workshop, if you drive it yourself youre not entitled to a free rental car. So - I told them that as the instrument cluster doesnt work I cant see what speed Im driving, by not having a speedo my car is illegal for road use in Sweden.
They immediately replied that I of course was intitled to both a towtruck and free rental.
A blown fuse might be the issue, but why did it blow? Is there some cable harness with bad insultation, some damaged component or something else that is the root cause. I actually looked for a fuse table in the user manual - there is none!? I`ve never had a car without a fuse table that specifies what circuits the fuses are used for.
Back from workshop.
Apparently my car was ready by the 20th but my workshop didnt give me any notice about it!?
I got a Peugeot 5008 as free rental car. Didnt like it at all. The DS4 is in a completely different league when it comes to feel of quality, noise level, behaviour. Only thing that the 5008 excels in is space,
Got the 1.2 130hk petrol, felt really peppy but took a lot more gasoline than my e-tense with no charge at all.
Anyway - solution to my problem was a “hard” reset of onboard computer with their workshop computer.
They told me that they havent had many DS4s with this problem but a few Peugeot 308 or 3008.
Update after a few weeks.
The problem persist, cant see any “red line” or common behaviour that would be the trigger…
The black screen. Issue has shown up at three more occasions since the workshop visit.
Between first and second i drive approx 3500km (4 weeks), between second and third 1300km (1 week). It happens with high current battery at 0%, at 80%. Third time (this morning) it was at 80%, Friday I drove 500km, charged the car between Friday and Saturday, used drove 60km Saturday without any issues.
Ive deleted my wife s profile to be sure that only one profile is used.
Now Ive contacted my workshop and asked them for a permanent solution or a buyback. Car is not yet 1 year old and I shouldnt need to disconnect the batteries to reboot the car every now and then.
The culprit was actually today, -15 celsius outside, my wife was about to take the car to the horse stable 30km away, what if it would have happened at the stable instead of at home, or if I was on a business trip… Leaving my wife and youngest daughter stranded.
Now the car actually works, engine and everything, but if something goes south, like a engine warning light or similar, theres no possibility to actually see the warning light. Who would be blamed if we drive the car without display causing harm to the engine or something else…
Luckely we also have the old trustworthy XC70 that since we bought it new 2014 never has failed us…
I’ve had my car back from the workshop just 48 hrs, they fitted two new 12v batteries and a hard reset.
They told me the car is now 100% correct.
Ummm, no its not, 48 hrs later the car the EXACT same issues still exist.
I have no faith in the DS brand at all.
They look nice and drive nice but the build quality, especially the electrics is diabolical.
Yet another update - Today, only two days after last “black screen” event it turned all black once again.
Had a really good dialouge with the workshop yesterday about how to proceed. For them to be able to take action I need to get the car towed via DS assistance.
So, today -13 celsius outside, preclimatising working and everything felt good. jumped in to the wam cosy car, pushed start and was immediately presented with black screens
Called DS assistance with the in car button, five minutes later everything was settled with towing etc. 1 hour later the car was on its way to the workshop.
1,5 hours later I received an email from the workshop stating that they had started the faultsearching immediately. Splendid service!!
Now I`ll be driving my old V60CC until my DS4 is repaired - to much hassle with rental cars
Yeyyy - time for a new update
Got an email form my workshop this morning, stating that they have found a defective component that they are 99% sure of is responsible for the problems.
No matter if changing the component fixes the problem the component is defective and need replacing. What puzzles me is that it is located next to the cars roof antenna… Weird placement of an apperently critical component…
The component is on backorder, but as soon as it arrives they will replace it and hopefully that fixes the black screen issue If not they will continue searching for other causes.
Picked up my car today at the dealership.
They`ve exchanged the module located near the roof antenna, everything seems to be working at the moment.
When I took of from the dealership it struck me how quite nad comfotable the car is! The V60CC is comfortable but the DS4 with the DS advanced suspension is on a completely different level!
Now I really hope that the problem is sorted for good
Its been working since I got it back, only five days yet but i’m holding my thumbs.
What puzzles me is that my car doesnt communicate properly with the server after the module was changed.
Doesnt update charge status, if its locked or not etc.
If I put the car to “private” that information is passed through to the app and gives a “fault message”.
Weird little gremlins… I have tried to disconnect both batteries and let it sit for an hour (worked before). But this time I have had no luck! App is reinstalled, cache and storage data deleted, reconnect etc but still the same.
Any ideas on how to bring the connection back to life?
