Traction Battery Or 12v?

Yep. Yours is 0.00549 Ohm

Why do you think its failing if set it to 760 EN or CCA ?
Actually out of all the choices it only passes on SAE ?

Heres the results I’m seeing with SAE, CCA & EN set at 760

I’ve tried the tester on my wifes car and I’m seeing the same results.
It passes on SAE but nothing else.

Just tried this, didnt see a change in voltage on any of the 12v batteries.
However, the traction battery was fully charged last night and the car hasnt been used today so maybe there was no charge gong in at all ?
I’ll need to try again when I know its putting charge in.

Stay with EFB EN 760

But its coming back as a SOH fail with those settings ?
I’m not sure though the battery is failing as all other readings suggest its a good battery ?

This is the 5th main 12v battery in 12 months, theres no way these can all be failing.
This one has only been on the car 10 days.

I might try disconnecting it from the car and then test it ?

I’ve just realised theres another setting on the tester.
If I select ā€œQUICK TESTā€, theres an option to input the amps per hour.
Quick Test avoids putting in any other information.

So heres the results after just using Quick Test.
Not sure if 70Ah is the correct figure to test at ?

Now, that’s probably closer to the truth. But I personally struggle with yours tester because it’s not intuitive. It doesn’t have to be perfect and complicated, just good and simple.

Yes, I’m not convinced it works correctly using the more complicated settings.

@Jactac, if nothing else your helping me with my research for a user friendly tester.
@Andrew_PL Where did you get yours from, make and model?

Now that I know my tester can function in a more basic mode I’m happy enough with it.

it would be nice to understand the settings where you input the full spec, ie: EFB EN 760 , and why this then shows as a fail.
I’m sure theres a reasonable explanation.

@Jactac Any help?
BM520 Battery Testing

I’ve emailed the manufacture for some advice.

I took the tester down my dads house earlier, he’s just had a new battery so tested that using the basic setting and it worked perfectly.
I then re-tried it on my wife’s car, again using the basic test and agin no issues.
So either I’m not using it correctly when in the full spec mode or it’s not liking this setting on my DS with the battery still in the car.
The basic test gives all the info you would need anyway, just like Andrews.
The more detailed info it can offer is over my head anyway, such as Wave Form & Ripple testing :face_with_spiral_eyes:

In basic test mode all you input is the battery voltage and Ah figure, it then gives two results SOC & SOH, like the photos above.

Jut saw it.
So it makes sense now. :+1:

Still like to try and find out why it fails on the more complicated settings though

Had my battery checked independently from DS and was told that it is only capable of holding 27%. Went back to DS service who checked it and said it needs replacing (why they couldn’t have told me that two weeks ago). They then told me the battery with fitting will cost Ā£370, plus I had to pay a Ā£178 diagnostic charge, which after arguing with them they agreed to drop. Now in the process of trying to get them to change the battery as the car is 28 months old with 11000miles. I purchased it at 6 months old with 50 miles showroom mileage. Also it was in the DS garage for nearly 2 months soon after I purchased it with problems. Halfords will do a Yuasa EFB096 battery with fitting for Ā£200 (discounted by Ā£68. So that is my destination if no joy with warranty. Like you I wish I hadn’t bought it and when I am in a position to sell I will.

I was told by numerous DS technicians at my dealership DS UK are fully aware that the main 12v batteries are failing on countless cars, they suspect a poor batch of batteries.
I’ve also been told that Stellantis use recon batteries on their new build cars !
How much truth is in this I dont know.
The service department at my dealership are very open about discussing this, they have no issues with me quoting their comments this back to DS customer care.
Dealerships are usually a bit coy when slagging of the manufacturer but not at this dealership, they tell you straight, the batteries are useless and DS know all about it !

My DS dealership are also dealership for Vauxhall and Peugeot, it’s the same service department, they say they are changing the same batteries on those makes as well, which as we know are all under the Stellantis umbrella.

I spoke with DS UK customer services yesterday and mentioned the above, the person I spoke to didn’t deny DS UK know about this, in fact she said there has been ā€œthe odd caseā€.

ā€œTHE ODD CASEā€, !
My cars has had 5 in 12 months

On a new car the battery warranty is only 24 months, so I’ve brought this up with DS UK because history show’s the battery failing every few months on my car and I dont want to be caught with a Ā£400 bill every few months when the warranty runs out, I was told they will look into this taking into account past history.

The latest battery was put on my car about two weeks ago, since then the ICE is still running more than I would expect, even though the traction battery is fully charged, this was one of the symptoms I was seeing every time they had to change a battery. I know having the ICE kick is not a 100% indication the battery is failing but it does seem to indicate that the ICE is constantly trying to maintain charge in the battery.
So, I’ve booked my car in for another battery check in two weeks time just to check it’s still ok.

My own tests seem to indicate it is ok, but because the ICE is running very frequently there’s a little bit of doubt in my mind.

Did you speak to DS customer service on the phone or by email? I have sent a complaint into them and waiting for a reply now. Do you have any idea of the small battery identification number?
Really grateful to everyone on this Forum, what would we do without each other? Rely on DS ???

Initially I rang them, spoke to customer services, they had a customer services manager ring me back, we then continued correspondence via email.
They will issue a case number when they reply.
In fairness I wasnt waiting long for replies.
Not sure the ID or part number of the smaller battery but heres a photo of mine .
I’m sure one of the other guys will have the exact part number for you.
It amazes me where they find all the good info.
